dark entries are honored to reissue the debut album from carolyn fok / cyrnai, an asian-american female solo artist from the bay area. the 6-track 12” ep was released in 1985 by mind matter records with a 48-page zine featuring carolyn’s poetry and drawings, re-printed here. for this reissue we’ve added 8 unreleased bonus tracks recorded between 1980-1984 and included a 6-page press kit with photos and notes by carolyn. all songs have been remastered by george horn at fantasy studios.

noamm is the electronic equivalent of a honed switchblade. with surgical precision the bass agenda alumnus incises keys, cuts chords, pierces percussion and razors through rhythms. it is this slicing sound that the greek artist brings to his debut 12 for shipwrec. seven tracks of machined melodies and frigid fire make up psychoanalysis. the ep is brimming with calculated fury and clinical rage. from the coursing cruelty of ruhestimmung and the menacing dance macabre to the future world coldness of das schwarze korps, noamm is direct and straight to the point with his hard hitting style and no-nonsense approach. few respites are to be found on this 12, into the abyss of changing subconsious being the only refuge from the arctic winds and audio blasts that scour this record. frosted ferocity from start to finish from this exciting musician.

too $hort’s legendary 1992 effort “shorty the pimp” is back in effect on vinyl thanks to the hip hop preservationist at get on down. though many don’t consider this to be one of too $hort’s strongest releases, the project did move well over 80.000 in its first week of release landing at number 6 on the billboard top 200. taking the title from the incredibly rare 1973 blaxploitation film, too $hort does what he does best on shorty the pimp: funk beats, oastful braggadocio, a few conscious rhymes and layers of straight up pimp talk. the lyrical content can certainly be considered comical and entertaining. “shorty the pimp” is also a stand out project for producer ant banks who did many of the beats for the project, his first works with too $hort with many more to follow over the next decade. oddly enough, one of the best comments on “shorty the pimp” comes from a random guy on the internet who commented on his experience listening to the release, “i ran my car into a tree after listening to ‘it don’t stop’ definitely made for cars with the booming systems!”

metalurgic funk vol. 2 takes a short leap from vol. 1, with all 4 cuts based around solid tonks of straight forward techno. cutting 909-hat s, tunnel-visioning and simple but detailed slings of futuristic synths thread the whole record together. pretention is left aside for upfrontness and most advanced interpretation of these looped bangers are left to happen in the listeners head while segueing into the core of techno.

harlem s legendary disco label queen constance has long been a cult favourite among fans of underground dance music for decades. one of many labels operating under the equally legendary p&p family of imprints queen constance was operated by one peter brown, a truly colossal figure in nyc s music scene, it s catalogue still fascinates music lovers to this day. covering a wide range of styles including gospel, early rap and disco the label s output continually finds it way into the playlists of respected dj s and selectors across the globe. high fidelity will be the first in a series of queen constance rarities to be reissued, an extremely rare and coveted record that can change hands on the second hand market for big big money, avoid those low rent bootlegs that are out there and cop this fully licensed repress. the group s self-titled sole long-player is a fantastic 6 track set of gritty, soulful and uplifting funky disco with a diy edge. not too much is known about the artists themselves, or even when the record was performed, recorded or released but it certainly sounds like a group who knew their craft inside out. the energy is high across the record and the group sound like they re on fire, just check the outrageously funkified magic carpet and you ll see what we mean. amazing. the whole project has that enchanting lo-fi, back-street feel to it in terms of production and the mind boggles as to how such a record would have come off had it been recorded at a motown or any other big studio, but no matter as this release is perfect the way it is, an essential piece of street-level nyc disco straight from the underground.
